Vol. 39: The "Hybrid" Candidate (And Why It Is So Important For Hybrids To Include A Summary Section On Their RESUMES📑)
In the last episode of The Recruiting Rodeo 🐎, Vol. 38, I made the case that “if” your career has followed a clean, linear path — same industry, same job function, rinse and repeat — and your EXPERIENCE section is stacked with strong “Magic Bullets,” you may not need a SUMMARY section for your RESUME📑 to explain your career narrative.
But what if your experience zigzags? What if you’ve done a little of this, a little of that, and a lot of amazing work in between? What if your career doesn’t fit neatly “into the box” that many Companies seem to want?
Well, then you’re probably one of my favorite types of candidates …
The Hybrid 🌪️
I lovingly refer to working professionals with dynamic, winding career paths — who have worked in multiple industries and/or job functions — as hybrids.
To me, hybrids are high-caliber operators with range. To others, they are hard to “read.” Especially at the delicate stage of the Talent Acquisition process where RESUME📑assessment largely determines forward mobility and eligibility for an open position.
And that’s why having a SUMMARY section on your RESUME📑if you’re a hybrid is not a “nice to have,” but a “non-negotiable.”
So, for all of the hybrids out there, whose careers and experience span multiple industries, job functions, and skills, this Rodeo is for you.
